I meet once with parents and kids to introduce the book, explain how they are to use it at home together, and propose a schedule (for how fast they go through the lessons at home, when we will meed again, and when First Communion Sunday will be). Between Lessons 3 & 4 We all meet together to go through what they've done, answer any questions that have popped up, and perhaps expand on some points as seems appropriate. We meet again after Lesson 6 and do the same thing. And then the following Sunday is First Communion celebration. It is well written and it works well.Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02539324706208971196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5650537538546595543.post-14456798145635647102022-04-04T07:35:33.321-05:002022-04-04T07:35:33.321-05:00Laura: I belong to a Missouri synod Lutheran Churc...Laura: I belong to a Missouri synod Lutheran Church in Hartley Iowa and wondered if your posters are still available and how do I go about ordering them? For those who did it, according to the feedback, the blessing and benefit was multiplied by reading the Bible news sheet that went with each book (or with the Bible Overview sheet, the Intertestamental Period sheet, and The 4 Gospels sheet). People outside the congregation who caught sight of it asked to be on the monthly mailing list to receive the sheets for the books we were reading that month. As a pastor, I highly recommend this resource. My big dream right now is just getting the LCMS leadership to admit that something needs to be done regarding how we teach at every level. We need to take our heads out of the sand and equip people (professional and volunteers) and provide better resources. Imagine a section just for parents for teaching and reinforcing key teachings and memory verses and storying Scripture passages (and world-wide learning objective). Imagine creating a site that becomes a life-time reference for life, like a living catechism, an interactive site for ages/stages. Imagine students of all ages returning to this site throughout their lives. Small group studies that could be employed. Imagine a catechetical response section to current life issues in the news. Hmmm? Just thinking out loud.Mark Frithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16755055978818076192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5650537538546595543.post-44076153676756916562017-03-18T16:17:55.487-05:002017-03-18T16:17:55.487-05:00Hey Mark! I want to develop a website that pastors can use to get materials, resources, ideas, etc. for teaching confirmation. I'm just not sure how that's going to work yet. It might be a subscription vs. storefront. I'm not sure if they would want to purchase a unit, a whole curriculum, or individual pieces. Also, I discovered that not all kids remember what they learned in confirmation even by the time they graduate high school so I'm in the early stages of developing an online, interactive game similar to one my kids like to play when we get together. I need to make sure it's relelvant and meaningful which means no multiple choice. I want it to be able to be played in a confirmation classroom or in a family setting and encourage discussion, not guessing. It won't be truly valuable unless it inspires deeper thought. It kindled in me a a love for the many subjects in science, and it developed a great respectful awe and appreciation for the wonders of the physical world. And most imporantly, at a time when my faith was being challenged by attempts at naturalistic explanations of life, the universe and everything, this curriculum strengthened my faith in the Almighty Creator God. I came away with confidence that the complexity in simplicity all around us didn't spontaneously develope but was intelleligently designed by the loving, all-powerful, all-knowing, incredibly creative Lord God of all. We'll call it our December Neighbors Breakfast Open House. It will all be about Neighbors Being Neighborly. Most people on our street don't know each other. We'll take these occasions to become more neighborly. In time, getting to know our neighbors, we'll be inviting willing participants to come into our home for Storying Bible Time, where participants learn selected stories by heart, wrestle with God's Word, and be blessed by the Spirit to consider becoming/growing as Christians. Thank you for the great starter idea.
